01STORY BRIEFThe idea in three screens.3 SCREENS

A slideshow is a story, not a sliced PDF.

Write the transitions first: situation, complication, discovery, application. A slide can hold one idea without becoming empty. If every screen repeats the first screen’s promise, readers move without learning. Read the sequence without design to check progression before polishing typography.
An educational sequence can start with a poor result, show its cause and offer a correction. Images should help viewers see the difference rather than merely occupy space. Check text size, contrast and visual load on every slide. A mobile slideshow should remain readable without constant zooming. Its narrative structure and physical legibility work together; neither compensates for the absence of the other.
Every slide should change the reader’s understanding.
A slideshow can be paced like a conversation: establish the problem, introduce a complication, show something concrete and resolve the useful question. It becomes a sliced PDF when each slide merely carries the next paragraph of an essay. Write the role of each slide before designing it. If two slides perform the same role, combine them. If the payoff requires a detail from an unreadable screenshot, enlarge the detail and explain what to inspect.
A sequence with a reason to continue
- 01Recognise
A problem the reader can immediately place.
- 02Understand
A concrete example or distinction changes the picture.
- 03Resolve
The payoff answers the question the opening created.
Editorial model: a way to reason about the process, not measured platform results.
Build a paper version first using short statements and rough visual notes. Read it without the caption and ask whether the argument survives. Make the first few slides useful enough that the reader gets something even if they do not finish. Avoid inventing extra steps just to increase swipes. A sequence can contain tension without withholding the entire answer until the last frame. When comparing it with video, keep the audience problem and claim comparable. A slideshow is an explanation format, not a guaranteed distribution shortcut or a licence to turn every list into a carousel.

02FIELD KITFrom concept to practice.2 SCREENS

Give each slide a purpose.
Adapt this to your audience, budget and test scope.
Put it to work.
- 01Give each slide a purpose.
- 02Keep a conclusion useful without another click.
Notes & sources.
The limit. More slides do not mean more value or better distribution.
