A useful agent knows which information is missing and which actions it may take. It can propose allocation, detect anomalies or prepare briefs. The loop should specify who approves budget changes and how execution stops. Without boundaries, an autonomy demo becomes operational debt.
Begin by having the agent propose the next experiment with supporting observations and limitations. A human can correct the plan before mutations occur. Keep those corrections because they expose still-implicit rules. The system becomes more autonomous when its rules are understood and checkable, not when approval is arbitrarily removed. This gives the team a concrete basis for expanding scope gradually.
An agent needs a perimeter before a personality
Calling a workflow agentic does not tell an operator what it can actually do. Define the actions available to it, the resources it may use and the conditions requiring human review. A system that drafts a publishing plan has a different risk profile from one that can buy accounts or execute live posts. Put these boundaries in enforceable configuration and tool permissions, not only in a friendly prompt. Give the agent an explicit way to stop when the destination, cost or account identity is uncertain.

Make the working state inspectable. The next operator should be able to see the brief, proposed actions, approvals, completed operations and unresolved errors without reconstructing a chat. Store durable identifiers and reconcile tool responses before retrying. Let the agent ask for the missing decision when necessary, but avoid making every reversible draft depend on a meeting. Good autonomy is specific: a bounded set of tasks can proceed reliably, while consequential changes remain attached to clear authority. The measure is completed, reviewable work, not how confidently the system narrates its activity.
