Account age can be associated with history, followers and behavior. Comparing old and new accounts requires distinguishing those dimensions.

An old account is not a control group.
Account age can be associated with history, followers and behavior.
An old account without recent activity is not equivalent to an established creator. Describe age, activity, audience and observable restriction history. Choose categories before searching for the split yielding the prettiest gap. Without comparable data, the verdict remains open.
If older accounts are the only ones surviving several cycles, they have already passed through selection. That history may explain part of their difference from new accounts. Keep cohort exits and inactive periods. Age is a convenient variable, but it does not summarize everything an account experienced. A credible analysis should resist treating a date field as a complete description of operational history and accumulated audience context.
Older is a bundle of experiences
Account age is easy to measure and hard to interpret. An older account may also have more posts, a clearer audience, an established creator, a history of useful comments and a better production routine. Those differences travel together. A chart of age against views can describe the sample without proving that waiting improves distribution. Record activity and editorial development separately from calendar age. An account left untouched for six months and one that published thoughtfully throughout that period should not silently stand for the same operating history.
Calendar time is only one variable
- 01Age
Time since the account was created.
- 02Activity
What was actually published and learned.
- 03Survival
Which accounts remain in the observed sample.
Editorial model: a way to reason about the process, not measured platform results.
For a practical comparison, define age bands before inspecting performance and align the age of the posts being measured. Include accounts that stopped, not only those still visible in the current dashboard. Otherwise survival becomes an invisible eligibility requirement. Ask what decision the comparison will support: whether to extend an experiment, improve onboarding or change creative direction. Waiting may be cheap in software but expensive in opportunity cost. A useful review separates what could improve through learning from what the team merely hopes time will repair.
