THE TAKEAWAY

AI Slop describes output that puts volume ahead of distinctiveness and usefulness. It is an editorial judgment about the result, not an automatic diagnosis based on which tool made it.

THE SIGNAL

Your generator doesn’t need a better prompt. Your account needs a point of view.

Perfect faces. Interchangeable scripts. Creativity is not measured in exports per minute.

Sometimes you recognize the brief before you understand the video. Two seconds of surprise, a voice that never doubts, three benefits, an imaginary button. The issue is not that a machine speaks. It is that nobody seems to have anything to say.

AI can widen the creative field: prototype a setting, try a narrative, visualize something impossible to film. It can also compress twenty perspectives into one perfectly forgettable average. Output speed cannot distinguish those uses.

In an AGD network, diversity should survive the removal of account names. Mix nine posts from three personas and ask someone to reconstruct the groups. If the only difference is subtitle color, you have probably distributed a template rather than identities.

Before adding variants, change a fundamental choice: the conflict, the intended audience or the knowledge offered. An idea worth a human version may deserve a synthetic version too. The reverse does not become true because a subscription includes a thousand generations.

Keep the tool. Change the creative decision.

A useful test is to remove the account name, brand colours and captions from three proposed videos. Can someone still tell which audience each belongs to? If the answer is no, the difference lives in packaging. Generating forty more versions makes the packaging exercise faster. It does not give the system forty perspectives. Write the scene before choosing a model: who is struggling, what do they misunderstand, and what can the viewer see that resolves it? A synthetic actor explaining an imaginary problem is less persuasive than a modest screen recording that makes a real problem unmistakable.

THE IDEA, UNPACKED

Three differences that actually matter

  1. 01
    Situation

Change the problem being experienced, not just the background.

  2. 02
    Perspective

Change who notices the problem and what they care about.

  3. 03
    Evidence

Show an observable result rather than a claim in a new voice.

Editorial model: a way to reason about the process, not measured platform results.

Use generation where it buys a decision. A storyboard can reveal whether a joke needs three scenes or one. A rough visual can help a team reject an expensive concept before production. A voice draft can expose a sentence nobody would naturally say. Keep those uses separate from evidence: a generated customer is not a customer interview, and a fabricated product screen is not a demonstration. The editorial standard is simple enough to put beside the render button: does this image explain something the reader could otherwise miss, and is it clear what is real?

The easiest way to detect sameness is to remove the logo. If the post could come from any product in the category without changing a sentence, the brief probably never contained a real point of view. Replace broad ambitions such as helping creators grow with an observation someone in that audience would recognise: the moment a subtitle hides the only important button, the awkward handoff between an editor and an operator, the dashboard that calls a returning buyer new acquisition. These are not hooks yet. They are material. A good hook opens one of those specific problems and then stays long enough to resolve it.

Use AI to make the reasoning easier to inspect. Ask for competing explanations, missing evidence or three ways a reader might misunderstand a claim. Compare proposed examples against the actual product and discard the convenient fiction. An editor can then choose a voice and a structure around something true. That workflow is slower than accepting the first polished paragraph, but it can save the much larger cost of publishing a library nobody needs. The account should accumulate recognisable judgement: what it notices, what it refuses to exaggerate and which questions it keeps returning to. A consistent font is branding. Consistent judgement is a reason to come back.
